WARSAW — Kosciusko REMC has sponsored two students for Indiana’s Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, June 9-16.

Youth Tour provides young Hoosiers the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, experience American history and gain a better understanding about their electric cooperative and government.

According to Jennifer Barger, communications specialist for KREMC, a delegation of 82 Indiana students representing 34 Indiana electric cooperatives are in the midst of the trip. More than 1,800 students from 47 states are traveling to Washington for the week-long experience.

Allison Stump, Pierceton, and Justin Stout, Warsaw, have been selected to represent KREMC on Youth Tour this year.

“KREMC is pleased to provide this opportunity for our local youth,” Barger said. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the sights of our nation’s capital and to make new friends. These young people will see, first hand, that we all have the power to make a difference.”

Students participating in the trip are visiting the Flight 93 and Pentagon 9/11 memorials, the Gettysburg battlefield, Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Mall memorials, the National Museum of the Marine Corps, taking a night cruise on the Potomac River and more.

The Indiana Youth Tour students also participate in a youth rally, during which they will share their thoughts and opinions on a variety of timely issues. The youth rally will prepare the students for a day on Capitol Hill, where they will have an opportunity to meet with Indiana’s congressional delegation.
