WARSAW — A Leesburg resident has been taken to the hospital after his moped collided with a vehicle in the parking lot at Tecomet, Warsaw.
Crews responded at approximately 2:59 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, to an accident involving a vehicle and a moped.
According to police reports, Angela R. Herford, 23, West Spring Street, Etna Green was driving her gray 2011 Nissan through the parking lot of Tecoment, where she is employed, when a black 2013 moped, driven by Kyle E. Watts, 22, West Van Buren Street, Leesburg, entered her line of travel, coming toward her.
Herford told police she stopped the vehicle, but that Watts was looking down at a cell phone and did not look up until just before his moped made impact with her vehicle.
Herford also told officers she checked on Watts, who asked her not to call the police.
Officers spoke with Watts, who told them he had gone through the Tecomet parking lot to avoid the traffic light at SR 15 and CR 350N.
Watts was transported to Kosicusko Community Hospital with lacerations to his arm and damage to his teeth.
A witness confirmed that Herford stopped her vehicle and that Watts was looking down until the moment before impact. He added that, upon impact, he saw that Watts had a cell phone, which was thrown from his hand.
