ELKHART COUNTY — President Obama is set to visit Elkhart County tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1. His visit will include stops at Concord Community High School and the Lerner Theatre.

Obama first visited Concord Community High School on Feb. 10, 2009, over seven years ago. During that first visit, he addressed his Recovery and Reinvestment Plan. The number of people unemployed in Elkhart peaked in April, 2009, at 17,977 people or 19.8 percent.

For this visit, Obama is expected to talk about the economic progress Elkhart has made, including the current unemployment rate, at 3.9 percent in April, 2016, and Elkhart’s graduation rate, at 90 percent. Both of these numbers have changed dramatically since his first visit in 2009.

The majority of the audience will be made up of students, faculty and graduating seniors from the high school. A very limited number of remaining tickets were given to the public at 8 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, May 31. Ink Free News will have a reporter at the event to update readers on the visit.

After his presentation at Concord Community High School, Obama will travel to the Lerner Theatre. There, the President will participate in a closed town hall event hosted by PBS. A very limited number of Elkhart residents were invited to speak directly to Obama. The town hall event will air at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, on PBS stations.
