SYRACUSE — Braving warm temperatures under nearly cloudless skies, many people lined the parade route in Syracuse to enjoy the 2016 edition of the annual parade. Led by a processional of police vehicles, numerous floats, marchers and vehicles entertained the gathered crowd.

The Wawasee High School marching band provided a musical background for the processional, which paraded north on Huntington Street and eventually concluded on Main Street near the entrance to the Syracuse Cemetery.

Following the parade, many people gathered at the cemetery for a Memorial Day service led by members of the Syracuse American Legion, Post 223. Led by Post Commander Carolyn Gunder, the service included Post Chaplain Chris Logenbaugh honoring local heroes who died in combat throughout the history of America’s wars and conflicts.

A 21-gun salute was performed by the American Legion Honor Guard, followed by a playing of Taps by American Legion Women’s Auxiliary member Lorree Corbat.
