Kindness-Rocks-oneWINONA LAKE — Kindness is emphasized at Jefferson at all times, but it is especially highlighted during “The Great Kindness Challenge,” which is a “week devoted to performing as many acts of kindness as possible.” Jefferson observed this week in early March.

Student council members got the idea to have every student in K-6 paint a rock to reflect what kindness means to them. Partnering with Jefferson art teacher Miss Manges, students designed and painted their rocks during their art classes. Teachers have also been encouraged to paint and add their own creations to the mix. The results are nothing short of varied, unique and beautiful.

Visitors to Jefferson will notice the colorful rocks out front in the elevated, circular “rock garden,” where the giant “Mr. Duncan” boulder stands watch. The hope is that this tradition of painting “kindness rocks” will continue every year until all the rocks are “upgraded.”
