PIERCETON — Pierceton Elementary School spent the week of May 2-6 celebrating School Lunch Hero Week.

Before a child can learn, his or her belly must be full and for that reason, the school lunch staff is an important part of the school team. PES purchased the “Lunch Lady” book series by Jarrett J. Krosoczka, a series in which the lunch ladies are the super heroes and use their hair nets and spatulas to catch the bad guys.

The books “flew” off the shelves of the library during the month of April and had to be put on hold as students spent time thinking about all that the lunch staff does and how to thank them.

The week that they were honored, the lunch staff received crowns, a sub sandwich filled with thank-yous, new aprons with the lunch lady logo, thank-you emails from students and many other thoughtful gifts from the students.
