WARSAW — As the Indiana Bicentennial approaches, the history that surrounds the county becomes more and more relevant. For the next few weeks, A Summer For History will produce a story a week concerning a different museum located in Kosciusko County.

The Kosciusko County Historical Society, is the primary caretaker of the county’s history and has been since it’s inception in 1966. The Kosciusko Old Jail Museum, Warsaw, is the central museum operated by the historical society and holds many exhibits about, not only the history of Warsaw and the jail, but the county as a whole. People visit and tour the museum on a regular basis in the summer.

“There are times that groups will be waiting for me when I come back from finishing a tour,” said Tour Guide Bill Huffer. Huffer has been a tour guide at the museum for five years and, in those five years, he’s given a lot of tours to a lot of people, but there are some that enjoyed more than others.

“I like taking the fourth-grade groups,” he said. “They always have interesting questions.”

The museum covers the whole of Kosciusko County with particular focus on the Civil War up through modern day, but it also has several exhibits dedicated to prehistory and Native American culture before the arrival of Europeans.

The Kosciusko County Old Jail Museum is open from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and admission is free.
