SYRACUSE — Very few details are available concerning Mike Schmidt, principal of Wawasee High School, being placed on administrative leave (see Wawasee High School Principal Placed On Leave).

Dr. Tom Edington, Wawasee Community School Corp. superintendent, said by phone today, Friday, May 13, an investigation began internally with the school corporation “but we are not yet saying what direction we are going with it (investigation).”

Thus far no word has been received from any police agency on an investigation.

Edington noted Vince Beasley and Steve Perek, assistant principals at the high school, will be looked to for leadership while Schmidt is on leave.

With the high school graduation a little more than three weeks away Sunday, June 5, Edington said “there will be a time for us to address it (graduation), but we are not yet addressing it.”
