Velma M. Schiuszi, 86, Rochester, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester.

She was born Feb. 21, 1930, in Mosheim, Tenn., to Robert and Ada Trent Carter. Velma married John Edward Schiuszi on Sept. 16, 1961 in Chicago, Ill. John died Dec. 18, 2012.

She was a former member of the Baptist Church in Winamac. Velma had worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac. She had also worked as a cook at the Oak Grove Restaurant in Star City. Velma was a baby sitter for many area families for years. She enjoyed bingo, gambling, playing cards and Yahtzee. Velma was an avid Cubs fan. She also enjoyed cooking and listening to gospel music. Family and friends will remember her red lipstick. Velma loved God and her family. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her children: Vivian (Mike) Long, Logansport; Douglas (Lanie) Brigman, Egg Harbor, Wisc.; Chris (Linda) Schiuszi, Lafayette; Leisa (Phillip) Watterson, West Lafayette; Cynthia (Earl) Burdine, Battle Ground; Venell (Josh) Lett, Rochester; 18 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her father: Robert Earl Carter; her mother: Ada Van Della Trent Carter; her husband: John  Edward Schiuszi; her grandson: Nathan Watterson; her great grandson: Kyle Downing; Nora Gradowski; JR Carter; Roy Carter; Floyd Carter; Bert Carter.

No funeral services will be held. Burial of cremated remains will take place in Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac.
