Tennis Team Blanks Goshen

The Warsaw girls tennis team tuned up for the league tournament by making quick work of Goshen Monday night.

The host Tigers a total of just 10 games on the five courts in blanking the Redhawks 5-0 in the Northern Lakes Conference finale.

The match was moved indoors to the Warsaw Tennis & Fitness Club due to inclement weather and was a varsity only contest.

Colette Smith led the way for Warsaw with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles action.

Liza Lewis posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles for the Tigers. Ella Knight completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 3 position.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Hannah Rice and Athena Schlitt rolled 6-1, 6-2 for Warsaw, while Rosie Fleming and Grace Miller completed the shutout with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles play.

Warsaw improves to 8-5 overall and finishes at 5-2 in NLC action.

The Tigers host the first round of the NLC Tournament on Wednesday evening. Day two of the event is Thursday at Plymouth with the final round back at WCHS on Friday night.

Softball Team Victorious

The Warsaw softball team outscored Plymouth 14-13 for a Northern Lakes Conference win.

The Pilgrims tallied all 13 of their runs in the first three innings, including scoring six in the third frame, to take a 13-3 lead.

Warsaw got right back into the league contest with a huge fourth frame. The Tigers plated eight runs in the inning to cut the Plymouth lead to 13-11. Warsaw then scored three times in their final at-bat in the seventh inning to notch the thrilling NLC win.

Grace Johnson continued her outstanding freshman season to pace the winners. Johnson had three hits, including a three-run homer, and drove in four runs.

Taylor Sleeth had three hits and three RBI and Abby Glass three hits and two RBI for the Tigers. Hayley Brock had a three-run double for the Tigers.

Freshman Courtney Chookie notched the pitching win for Warsaw.

Plymouth piled up 20 hits and the Tigers collected 11 in the game.

Plymouth won the junior varsity contest by a 13-8 final.

The Tigers move to 5-14 overall and go to 5-5 in league play, while Plymouth drops to 0-10 in the NLC.

Warsaw hosts NorthWood in NLC action on Wednesday night and then entertains Northridge in a league game on Friday evening.
