ROCHESTER — Just before midnight Saturday, May 7, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department was sent to an area near 846 W. Ninth St., for an apparent deceased female that had been located.

Fulton County Deputies located the body of a female in a wooded area adjacent to West Ninth Street. The female was deceased and a firearm was located near the victim. The female has been identified as 43-year-old Katina Powell of Rochester.

From the initial investigation it would appear that she died from a single gunshot wound.

An investigation has been initiated by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department and the Fulton County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy was completed in Rochester Sunday, May 8. The results of the autopsy are pending at this time. The death investigation is ongoing and further details will be released when they become available.
