JASPER — A southern Indiana couple is going viral for a simple, yet touching, display of love.

Libby Sanders of Jasper posted photos to Facebook of her hand in a fist on top of her husband’s, with the fingernail on his left pinky finger painted turquoise. A second photo shows her fingers extended, with her fingernails painted the same shade.

She explained in the Facebook post that “I simply forget that I lost my pinky, but it is always kind of a bummer when I am reminded.” Libby says she lost the digit in a screen door accident in February.

“Matt said, ‘I will be your surrogate pinky. You can paint my pinky to match your nails for the rest of our lives’,” she wrote.

The post has struck a chord, receiving more than 100,000 shares since Libby wrote it on Monday, May 2.
