Wawasee Tennis: Memorial Sweeps Warriors

SYRACUSE — Wawasee ran into one of the Northern Lakes Conference’s best teams Tuesday night in Memorial. The visiting Chargers dominated Wawasee for a 5-0 win.

Krystal Grubb and Taylor Freedline each used 6-0, 6-0 wins on the No. 1 and No. 2 singles courts. Maggie Dickerson won 7-5, 6-0 over Meg Heinisch at No. 3 singles. The doubles matches were more closely contest but still saw Charger wins on the No. 1 court (6-1, 4-6, 6-1) and No. 2 court where Layla Jojo and Maddy Berger won 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

Wawasee (3-7, 1-4) hosts NorthWood on Thursday.

Wawasee’s JV won 5-3 to bump its record to 4-6 on the season.

“Great NLC win by our JV squad who continues to get better,” said Wawasee coach Shane Staley.
