Tigers Swing Past Panthers

A three-run double from Sterling Hay in the fourth inning boosted Warsaw to a 7-5 win over NorthWood Monday afternoon in Northern Lakes Conference baseball.

Hay had two hits for the Tigers, and Luke Baker drove in a pair of runs as Warsaw moved to the top of the NLC standings with a 3-1 mark.  Henry Howard and Braxton Tennant also had a pair of hits for Warsaw, which is 5-5 overall.

Zach Witt held the Panthers scoreless in the final four innings. NorthWood and Warsaw each had 12 hits in the game.

In the JV contest, NorthWood came out on top 8-2. Matt Francis homered and Dalton Smoker had a double in the losing effort.

Warsaw plays Wednesday at home against Northridge.

Tigers Can’t Hold Panthers In Check

After working back to tie the game at four in the sixth, Warsaw allowed three runs to NorthWood in a 7-4 softball loss.

Abby Glass had three of Warsaw’s 12 hits while Grace Johnson, Taylor Sleeth and Courtney Chookie all had a pair of hits.

The Tigers trailed 4-0 in the sixth, but hung all four of its tallies after RBIs from Johnson, Shaffner and Sleeth. After Morgan Ashtari walked with the bases loaded to tie the game, NorthWood then forced an out and home and got a groundout to get out of the jam.

NorthWood brought the go-ahead run home on an error, then RBI hits from Arika Flickinger and Emily Shrock put distance between the two teams.

Summer Stillson scored four runs for the Panthers while Shrock and Flickinger each drove in two runs.

Chookie took the loss, tossing the complete game for Warsaw. Taylor Troxel earned the win in relief for the Panthers.

In the JV game, NorthWood claimed a 13-12 win over Warsaw.

Warsaw (2-9, 2-2 NLC) will visit Northridge Wednesday.

Host Carroll Bests Tiger Tennis

Fort Wayne Carroll proved a tough task for the Warsaw girls tennis team Monday, winning 4-1 in Huntertown.

Warsaw’s lone win came at No. 2 singles, where Ella Knight stormed past Lauren VanWyngarden love and three.

At No. 1 singles, Sydney Jackson beat Liza Lewis two and two, and at No. 3 singles, Baily Newman claimed a love and three result on Rosie Fleming.

At No. 1 doubles, Dana Huck and Mai Toscos breezed past Athena Schlitt and Colette Smith love and one. At No. 2, Kylie Bartkus and Hannah Wallace took care of Grace Miller and Chelsey Farling one and four.
