Jimmie Jr. Winn, 64, of South Whitley, died at 7:50 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016 at his home following a short illness.

He was born Jan. 29, 1952 in Greene, N.Y. a son of the late Everett Leroy and Hallie Mae (Sheets) Winn. His formative years were spent in Marathon, N.Y.

A career long mechanic, he worked for Taylor Garage Services, Vestal, N.Y. in their maintenance department as a mechanic and welder for over 20 years. He loved dirt track auto racing and served as the team mechanic for many late model and sprint car teams.

In 2014, he moved to South Whitley to be closer to family.

He is survived by his girlfriend of over 20 years, Betty Sperry, South Whitley; three daughters: Tammy Yerkes, N.Y.; Angella Winn and Laura Winn, both of Binghamton, N.Y.; a son, Garth Winn, South Whitley; five grandchildren; three sisters: Betty Gillette, Fort Wayne; Kathy Obadol, Binghamton, N.Y.; and Roberta (Kevin) Hall Johnson City, N.Y.; and a brother, Kenneth Winn, Harpursville, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Duane and Eldon Ingraham.

A visitation will be held 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. He will be laid to rest beside his mother at the Eberhard Cemetery at a later date.
