
ELKHART — After a thrilling start to the conference season last Thursday, the Wawasee tennis team was humbled Tuesday night.
The Lady Warriors, hot off their first Northern Lakes Conference victory since 2011, traveled to Concord in hopes of keeping the good times rolling. The Minutemen had other plans as they would capture a 4-1 win.
Wawasee’s lone win was at No. 1 doubles with Charity Parker and Kabrea Rostochak. The duo remained undefeated in NLC play with a comeback with in three sets, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Emma Westlake and Maya Klopfenstein.
“Charity and Kabrea stepped up their play to remain undefeated in NLC play,” said Wawasee coach Shane Staley. “Tonight’s performance was much improved, a great effort overall.”
The rest of the team faced defeat in straight sets. Jazlyn Gehlhausen took a 6-0, 6-0 loss at No. 1 singles to Alana Brubauer. At No. 2 singles Peyton Rookstool fell 6-0, 6-2 to Kindra Pressinell and Meg Heinisch lost 6-2, 6-1 to Regan Landis on the No. 3 singles court.
At No. 2 doubles it was Madison Cooper and Brooke Fick falling 6-0, 6-2 to Allison Murphy and Cali Cunningham.
Wawasee (2-3, 1-1), will host Manchester Thursday night.
Wawasee’s JV team fell 11-0 to Concord to move to 1-1 in NLC play and 2-3 overall.
