LANSING, Mich. – The TinCaps lost, 3-2, in walk-off fashion to the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Lugnuts third baseman Carl Wise hit a bases-loaded single with one out in the bottom of the ninth to score catcher Ryan Hissey for the win.

Fort Wayne (8-5) now has lost five games by a combined six runs.

Lansing (6-4) broke a 2-2 tie in the ninth against left-handed reliever Jerry Keel (L, 0-1). First baseman Juan Kelly led off with a single before Hissey reached on a fielder’s choice sacrifice-bunt attempt. After that, right fielder Josh Almonte and designated hitter Connor Panas both singled to load the bases for Wise, the number eight hitter, who was 3-for-25 before the game-winning hit.

The Lugnuts jumped out to a 1-0 lead against TinCaps starter Brett Kennedy in the first. Fort Wayne tied it in the top of the fourth on an Austin Allen groundout to score center fielder Michael Gettys, who had singled earlier in the inning and extended his hitting streak to six games. Lansing scored an unearned run in the fourth.

Right fielder Luis Tejada evened the game, 2-2, with an opposite-field single in the seventh to bring in Allen, who was on because of a fielder’s choice.

Kennedy finished with six strikeouts in five innings of work. Lefty Taylor Cox pitched two scoreless innings of relief after that. On the other side, Tayler Saucedo started and went 6 1/3 innings until he gave way to Dusty Isaacs (W, 1-0).

The TinCaps, who won the three-game series opener on Monday, 7-1, had two runners thrown out at the plate, while the Lugnuts had one cut down at home on the night.

Fort Wayne and Lansing play again Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
