NORTH WEBSTER — The North Webster Community Public Library is participating in Indiana’s Bison-tennial Public Art Project by sponsoring a bison statue as part of Indiana’s 2016 Bicentennial Celebration The 5-foot by 8-foot fiberglass bison will be painted, decorated, and put on display this spring in anticipation of the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay that will pass through Kosciusko County on Sept. 29. Name our bison by participating in the library’s Name the Bison Contest beginning April 1. Suggestions may be submitted throughout April at the Check It Out station located next to the circulation desk.

Tickets are now on sale for the Friends of the Library’s A Taste of Greece event planned for 5-7 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall.  It’s a fun educational event for the whole family that explores Greek culture through food, art, music, dance and language.  Taste a variety of Greek foods, try your hand at some Greek dancing, admire Grecian art and architecture, and learn about the culture and heritage of ancient Greece.  Tickets cost $5 per adult or $12 for an entire family. Mark your calendars and purchase your tickets from any Friends of the Library member or from Adult Services Director, Beth Smith. There will be no ticket sales at the door, so you must buy your tickets in advance.

While a celebration of Greek culture is planned, Voyager Book Club will be examining dystopia societies when they meet at 10 a.m. Monday, March 28, to discuss dystopia books.  In this book club, members read a book of their choice within an assigned genre and meet to share and discuss what each one has read.  Next month’s focus will be poetry books. 

The final session of Lapsit will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, as parents and their babies explore books and stories and engage in meaningful play designed to promote early learning.  Later that day, school age children engage in crafts while listening to stories during Crafts and Stories at 4:00 p.m.

Then at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, the Glean Team meets to encourage, collaborate, and hone their genealogy skills. Meanwhile, preschoolers will be honing their early literacy skills during preschool story time in the youth department at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

An abundance of new cabinets line the library’s entrance corridor thanks to a generous A Little Love for Library grant from the Dekko Foundation.  The handsome new cabinets provide much needed storage and display space.  The library staff extends a heartfelt “thank you” to the Dekko Foundation for their generosity and commitment to libraries.
