NORTH MANCHESTER — The Spring Choral Concert at Manchester University will be dedicated to the memory of those in the University community who left this life too soon.

The concert on Sunday, March 13, will feature “Requiem” by Maurice Duruflé by the A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers under the direction of conductor Debra Lynn, with organist Jiyoung Jeoung.

“There have been many Requiem masses composed over the centuries, but the Duruflé is truly one of my favorites,” Lynn said. “It seems particularly fitting in memory of these beautiful souls from our MU community because it omits the ‘Dies Irae’ (Day of Wrath/Judgement) portion of the Mass. Duruflé chose to focus his Requiem setting on the idea of eternal light.

“It is a much more uplifting, hopeful, and comforting reminder of our loved ones than the standard Requiem Mass text.”

At 3 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium, the program also includes the Cantabile Women’s Choir with conductor Scott Avery.

It is free and open to the public.

The performance is dedicated to the late students Nerad Mangai, Brook Dagnew, Kirubel Hailu who died on Feb. 21 and Tony Loera, and Chris Garber, who was assistant vice president for operations at Manchester University. Garber and Loera both died in December.
