MARION – Warsaw started its 2016 girls track season as expected at the Hoosier State Relays Qualifiers as well as the Region Rumple.

Warsaw was very fluid at the Qualifiers held at Indiana Wesleyan University Friday and Saturday. The quartet of two-milers of Allison Miller, Mia Beckham, Charlene Orr and Carmen Yoder all made the required top 24 to continue in the state tournament, which concludes at Purdue University on March 26. Miller was second in the Friday heat with a second-place time of 11:37.36, while Beckham won the Saturday heat at 11:35.29 and Yoder was second Saturday at 11:51.74. Charlene Orr was eighth at 12:20.61.

Warsaw also had four from the 60-meter dash make a splash, led by Audrey Rich (1, 8.17), joined by Abby Curtis (5, 8.43), Raina Armey (15, 8.62) and Maygan Bellamy (17, 8.69).

Warsaw’s 4×800 relay team of Hannah Dawson, Brooke Rhodes, Kenzie Martz and Anna Craig were third at 9:56.73 and a second team of Emma Bohnenkamper, Tsige Berelsman, Sierra Palmer and Megan Dawson were eighth at 12:03.53.

Rhodes, Rich, Dawson and Sam Alexander were the top 4×400 relay at 4:17.71, and the second relay from Armey, Bellamy, Audrey Hansen and Kara Harness were fourth at 4:41.72.

The 4×200 relay team of Rich, Alexanders, Curtis and Shunterra Davis were also tops at 1:49.20, with the second relay of Bellamy, Michaela Buriff, Kendall Menzie and Joelle Messenger fifth at 1:57.77.

The distance medley teams from Warsaw also had a double. Craig, Beckham, Lauren Orr and Claire Kehler were second at 13:36.66, while Suzie Pizano, Caitlin Kehler, Lex Desenberg and Amanda Hermann were seventh at 14:48.39.

Alexander and Curtis showed well in the long jump, Alexander’s 18’3″ leap ties her school record set last year. Curtis sailed 15’6.75″ to place seventh.

Morgan Bruner was third in high jump at 5’0″ and Bayly Dobbins (4’10”) and Buriff (4’8″) each were in the top 10.

At the Region Rumble throwers meet at Portage, Emily Bailey paced the Lady Tigers with a fine toss of 33′ 1″, followed by Page Desenberg and Natalie Nichols who both cleared 31′ in their attempts.

Next up for Warsaw is the IWU #3 Hoosier State Relays Qualifier on March 12 and the IPFW Bulldog Invite on March 12 before they prepare for their first home meet against Penn and South Bend Washington on Wednesday, March 23. Originally, this meet was scheduled for Penn but it has been changed to a Warsaw home meet.
