WINONA LAKE —Ethan Horst, Warsaw and Lucas Cone, Winona Lake, were among the 68 recipients of scholarships in the 13th annual Presidential Scholarship Competition at Grace College. The competition was held Feb. 12-13 and is an invitation-only scholarship competition for qualifying high school seniors.

Invitations are based on academic achievement, with awards ranging from $1,000 scholarships to full tuition. In all, 68 scholarships were awarded totaling over $2.2 million in tuition.

Horst received the Faculty Scholarship, totally $68,000, or $17,000 per year. Cone received the McClain Scholarship, which totals $48,000 or $12,000 per year.

“This is one of our biggest events all year,” says Cindy Sisson, vice president of enrollment management at Grace College. Approximately 380 people, including 139 contestants and their families, visited Grace for the event. “We were pleased to have students from 13 states and France compete at this year’s PSC,” Sisson continued.

On Friday, participants enjoyed dinner and program, followed by an opportunity to speak with faculty members. On Saturday, students competed for first prize through an interview and impromptu essay contest.

Other area recipients included Bradley Bowers, Fort Wayne, Kierstin Yeakle, Marion, Betsy Bleed, Fort Wayne all receiving the McClain Scholarships; and Rileigh Wolpert, Decatur, receiving a $56,000 or $14,000 per year Achievement Scholarship.

In addition Winona Merit Scholarships of $4,000 each or $1,000 per year were awarded to 30 students.

The PSC is one part of the robust financial aid program at Grace College.  The college is committed to helping families make quality, Christian higher education affordable.  A full ninety-nine percent of undergraduate students receive financial aid from Grace College.  Moreover, the Measure of Grace initiative began at the start of the current academic year, reducing tuition by 9% and committing to decrease tuition by $500 each consecutive year a student is enrolled.  Grace College also offers all students free textbook rentals and a three-year accelerated bachelor’s degree in any of its 68 majors.
