PROVIDENCE, RI — Few things in sports are more exhilarating than celebrating a hard-won victory. But, it’s a good idea to make sure you’ve actually won first.

A high school basketball team learned that lesson the hard way Sunday, Feb. 28, after prematurely celebrating just before the end of a title game.

The Burrillville Broncos were poised to beat the Chariho Chargers when a Broncos player threw the ball into the air to run down the clock.

The team erupted in the joyful rhapsody of hugging and on-court rivalry, but there was still one second left.

The Chargers called a time out, following it with a buzzer-beater lay-up and a one-point victory.
