Dorothy M. Bailey, Winona Lake, passed away at 12:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at her residence at the age of 89.
She was a 1943 graduate of Harper High School in Chicago, Ill., and in 1968 she graduated from Northern Illinois University. Dorothy was an elementary school teacher for 20 years in DeKalb, Ill. She was a member of The Federated Church in Sycamore, Ill. and attended Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Warsaw. Dorothy was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and DCRTA. She was born on June 28, 1926, in Chicago, to Joseph Smrt and Emily (Kretschmer) Smrt. In April 20, 1944, in Joplin, Mo.,she was married to Lt. Herb Bailey, who passed away in Jan. 1966.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter: Penelope (James) Grogan, Orlando; two sons: Herb (Anne) Bailey Jr., Warsaw; Scott (Nina) Bailey, Sycamore, Ill.; four grandchildren: Herb III (Sarah) Bailey, Warsaw; Heidi (Gary) Leininger, Warsaw; Ian (Michelle) Bailey, Bloomington; Hannah Bailey, Austin, Texas; four grandchildren: Mandy Whittaker; Emily Bailey; Josie Leininger; and Jules Leininger. She was preceded in death by her husband; mother: Emily Smrt, Dec., 1982; father: Joseph Smrt, Jan. 1986; brother-in-law: George Zitek, March 2006; and her sister: Gladys Zitek, Oct. 2010.
A memorial service and a celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw, and officiated by Chaplain Bryan Benjamin. Burial at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw.
