Grace College SportsWINONA LAKE  – The Grace College men’s basketball team had three players honored in the annual Crossroads League postseason awards on Monday.

Brandon Vanderhegghen capped off a terrific senior season by being named the CL’s Defensive Player of the Year as well as First Team All-League.

Logan Irwin joined Vanderhegghen on the All-Defensive Team and was Third Team All-League, and Erik Bowen rounded out Grace’s representation with an honorable mention listing for All-League.

Vanderhegghen led Grace in scoring with 16.8 points per game and was second in rebounds (5.7 rpg) and assists (2.3 apg). He was often tasked with guarding the opposing team’s best player and came up with a squad-best 1.5 steals per contest. He drilled 39 percent of his 3-pointers and 81 percent of his free throws.

Irwin had a strong senior season, tallying 13.1 points and a career-best 5.1 assists per game as Grace’s point guard. He produced a solid 2.5 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Bowen enjoyed massive improvement in his sophomore season. After scoring 2.7 ppg as a freshman, Bowen upped his production to 14.4 points and 9.6 rebounds per game in 2015-16 as Grace’s go-to post player. He notched 16 double-doubles, which ranked fourth in the nation.

The Lancers ended the regular season with a 19-11 record and finished fifth in the league at 9-9. Grace will travel to Goshen on Wednesday 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the CL Tournament.
