Delores-Edwards-1455289565DeLores Faye Edwards of Johnson City, Tenn., went home to the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at Johnson City Medical Center with her beloved husband and son by her side.

She was born on Oct. 6, 1930, in Milford, Iowa ,to Robert and Mae Twist.

DeLores met her true love in college and the sun shone the day she married Charles W. Edwards. After 65 years of marriage, the sun was still shining as they enjoyed each other in companionship through her last days.

In the miracle of creation, a daughter Leslie and a son Timothy were born.

DeLores received her master’s degree in education, specializing in language arts. She always treasured her ability to teach a child to read. Her love of history led her to become one of the first living history interpreters of Rocky Mount Historic Site, Piney Flats, Tenn. Living the character of Abigail, she was in charge of the kitchen and was acclaimed for her hearth side cooking. She served on the State Historic Society of Wisconsin Advisory Board and was president of the Monday Club in Johnson City, Tenn. As a student of history, DeLores’ passion for good government led her into politics. She has been an elected city councilwoman, and an elected county commissioner. Her hobbies in life were biking, swimming, walking, reading, traveling, and attending live performances of ballet, theatre and opera. DeLores always enjoyed vacations at the beach with her husband, Charles.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Leslie Edwards, one brother and three sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband: Charles W. Edwards of the home; her son: Timothy Edwards and his wife Sarah of Huntsville, Ala.; dear friends, Lori Hughes and her husband Jim of Johnson City, Tenn., and Mrs. Carolyn Williams of Bristol, Va.

The family will greet friends to share memories from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016, at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services, Johnson City. The family requests the honor of your presence for a Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Edwards at 6 p.m. in the Sunrise Chapel with Rev. Mark Gooden officiating. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Washington County Memory Gardens. Attendees are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10 a.m.

Edwards, Merle Edwards of Arizona, Earle Edwards of Wisconsin, Carolyn Williams of Virginia, Lori Hughes of Tennessee, Midge Dennewitz of Illinois, Winnie Heidenreich of Texas, Willa Jean Dobson of Iowa, the Rev. Mark Gooden, and the staff of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church.
