Warsaw SportsThe Warsaw boys basketball team continues to be in rare air when it comes to success this season.

The Tigers, who are one of just two undefeated teams in the state, are tied for No. 3 in this week’s rankings by the Coaches’ Association.

New Albany is No. 1 in this week’s IBCA Poll, followed by Merrillville at No. 2. Warsaw is tied with North Central (Indianapolis) at No. 3 and Pike completes the top five for the top 20 list.

The Tigers, who are 18-0, host Plymouth Friday night in the Northern Lakes Conference finale. Warsaw will be looking to finish 7-0 for the second straight year to claim the league championship. Plymouth is 14-4 overall and tied for second in the NLC standings with NorthWood as both are 5-1.

Coach Doug Ogle’s team, along with Tipton (14-0), are the only two unbeaten teams in the state. Tipton is ranked No. 11 in this week’s poll.

Warsaw still has regular-season games left versus two teams ranked in the poll this week. The Tigers will host No. 19 Carmel (11-6) on Feb. 20 and play at No. 6 Carroll (16-3) on Feb. 26.

The only other area team in the top 20 this week is South Bend Riley. The Wildcats, who check in at No. 18, are 16-4. Among the teams statewide receiving votes in the poll are NorthWood (15-2), Columbia City (14-5), Mishawaka Marian (14-3) and South Bend Washington (12-5).
