Girls Soccer Team Wins NLC Opener
A trio of players each netted goals as the Warsaw girls soccer team opened Northern Lakes Conference play Tuesday night with a 3-2 win at Plymouth.
Standout Meredith Hollar put the Tigers up 1-0 with a goal in the 13th minute assisted by Brooklyn Jackson. The contest was tied 1-1 at halftime after the hosts scored in the 27th minute.
The undefeated Tigers built a 3-1 lead as Danielle Hutcherson scored in the 45th minute off an assist from Kelly Williams and Erica Gauger scored off a penalty kick in the 58th minute. The Pilgrims (2-1) scored off a penalty kick in the 72nd minute for the 3-2 final.
Warsaw outshot Plymouth 15-9 and had a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Tiger keeper Abby Schue had seven saves for the winners.
Warsaw (4-0, 1-0) hosts NLC foe NorthWood Thursday with the varsity contest at 6:45 p.m.
The Tiger JV team opened its season with a 2-0 win over Plymouth. Cristina Tiaheutl and Rachel Sand each scored a goal for the Tigers. Megan Davis and Greer Smith assisted on the goals.
Volleyball Team Tops Northfield
There was no letdown by the WCHS volleyball team Tuesday night.
The Tigers, after rallying for a thrilling 3-2 win at Mishawaka Marian Monday night, defeated Northfield 3-0 at home.
Sam Jensen turned in a strong match to lead the Tigers to the 25-20, 25-18, 25-22 non-conference win. The senior had four aces, two blocks and five kills.
Emily Poe had a team-high 12 kills, while Jamie Lacheta added seven. Alex Sanchez recorded 14 digs and Delaney Goble nine for WCHS. Katie Voelz had four blocks and Chloe Hubner 27 assists.
Warsaw (5-1) plays at Elkhart Memorial Thursday in its Northern Lakes Conference opener. The host Crimson Chargers have won 76 straight NLC matches dating back to 2001. The JV contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
