Lindemuth,-Irv-obit-photoIrvin Wayne Lindemuth, 84, of Warsaw, passed away at 6:42 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at Kosciusko Community Hospital of Warsaw.

He was born on Oct. 1, 1931 in Defiance, Ohio to Bert M. Lindemuth and Mary Mildred (Overhiser) Lindemuth. They moved west when he was 13, settling in Everett, Wash., where he completed high school.

He married B. Carolyn Daily on June 12, 1955 and they had the joy of sharing 60 years of marriage together.

He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. He received a bachelor’s degree in engineering there, and later a bachelor’s in civil engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.

He served 30 years in the Coast Guard, including a tour in Vietnam. He was active in his local church at every duty station and retired to Warsaw in 1985. Irv completed master’s degrees in Biblical counseling and Christian School Administration at Grace College and Seminary in Winona Lake. He served on the Community Library Board for eight years and was an elder at Bethany Fellowship in Warsaw for over 20 years. Irv touched a great number of lives in many ways as a counselor, hospital chaplain and mentor. He loved a good joke and is remembered by those he encountered as a kind and wise man who always had time for them.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Blanche “Carolyn” Lindemuth, Warsaw; daughter: Dr. Karen (husband Dr. Ben) Scripture, Warsaw; and two sons: Steve W. (wife Maribeth) Lindemuth, Burke, Va. and Hal Lindemuth, Warsaw. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Lt. USN Luke (wife Sarah) Scripture; Carolyn (husband Ryan) Pritchett; Katie (husband Cannon) Veale; Steven D. (wife Kelly) Lindemuth; and Ryan Lindemuth (fiancée Jessica Stoehr); and four great-grandchildren: Bronson and James Scripture; Karey and Lorien Pritchett. Also surviving is his sister-in-law: Evelyn Lindemuth, Olympia, Wash.; and two sisters: Rosa (husband Jack) Scherueble, Everett, Wash, and Pauline Highet, Mount Vernon, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. His funeral service will follow at 5:30 p.m. at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Dr. Ben Scripture. Military honors will be conducted following his service by active members of the U.S. Coast Guard and the American Legion Post No. 49 and V.F.W. No. 1126 both of Warsaw. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016 at Scipio Cemetery, Harlan.
