Indiana Conservation Officers investigated an ATV accident that occurred around 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

According to Conservation Officer Guido Tims, Sam Gagnon of Rochester was operating an ATV in a field at 1133 Spatzen Nest Ct. in Rochester when the vehicle hit a bump. After hitting the bump, Gagnon’s right foot slipped off of the foot rest and was then run over the rear wheel of the ATV, causing the operator to be ejected.

Gagnon was transported to Woodlawn Hospital where he was treated and released for a broken right foot. Officer Tims said alcohol was not a factor in this accident but that Ganon was not wearing any protective gear at the time of the accident.

Conservation Officers urge operators and passengers of ATVs to follow all manufacturers’ safety recommendations, including the manufacturer’s recommended capacity.

Information on ATV safety can be located online through the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America at atvsafety.org or by calling 800-887-2887.
