NORTH MANCHESTER — The fun is just beginning for the Tippecanoe Valley girls basketball team.

The Lady Vikings closed their regular season run with a 21-1 record and a second consecutive, outright, Three Rivers Conference title following a 69-42 dismantling of Manchester Thursday night.

The visitors had one goal in mind for their TRC finale and accomplished that with ease. The Squires withstood a few early punches from Valley as the teams were tied 5-5 in the first few minutes, but the Lady Vikes quickly gained separation. Valley went on a 23-2 run to end the quarter, building a 28-7 lead in the process.

“28 points is a pretty good chunk for the first quarter,” said Valley head coach Chris Kindig. “We ended up leading by about 27 at the half, that’s the way we wanted to play. It’s tough to do that on the road, it really is.

“I thought, maybe, our intensity waned a little bit in the second half, but that’s natural. I thought Manchester played pretty well in the second half, they shot the ball much better. Part of that was our lack of intensity. We had some turnovers I didn’t like to see, but overall we played very well.”

Valley extended its TRC winning streak to 19 games with the win, dating back to Jan. 30, 2014.

“This is pretty special,” Kindig said of his team’s repeat title. “With some of the teams that are in this conference, namely Rochester, it’s tough. We played nine conference games this year, these girls have worked so hard to get to this point. We said that it didn’t matter if we won by one point of 30, we just wanted to win this conference and I’m very proud of them for what they’ve done this season.”

Thursday’s game was very crisp for the Lady Vikings, especially in the first half. There were very few fouls from the two TRC foes, allowing for a much better pace of play. It seemed like the perfect way for Valley to transition into the postseason.

Addy Miller and Anne Secrest led Valley with 17 points each. Brynda Krueger also hit double digits with an 11-point effort. Four other players scored for the Lady Vikes. Krueger led all players with eight assists while Hannah Dunn led the way with seven rebounds.

With the TRC out of the way, the Lady Vikings turn their attention to Wawasee.

Valley hosted the Lady Warriors Tuesday night and won 72-38. The two county rivals will meet once more in the opening game of the 2016 IHSAA Class 3A Sectional 21 Tournament held at Valley.

“We’re all so hyped for this,” commented Valley senior Morgan Brazo. “We’ve been excited for sectionals for a while, we know it’s that time of year. We were focused on the TRC and playing Manchester, but, now we’re ready for another back-to-back.”
