WINONA LAKE – The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters razzled and dazzled across Grace College’s Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center court on Wednesday night, making their first appearance in five years at Grace.

The Globetrotters entertained an estimated crowd of 1,650, displaying their universally recognized flair and style on the hardwood. While celebrating their 90th season, the Globetrotters made a stop in Kosciusko County as part of the 90th Anniversary World Tour.

“We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the Globetrotters tonight,” said Grace athletic director Chad Briscoe. “They bring a world-class style of family entertainment, and we were thrilled to bring them back to the Winona Lake area.”

The Globetrotters’ star-studded cast included the likes of Ant Atkinson, Thunder Law, and the 7-foot-4 Stretch. Spectators were treated to a number of thunderous alley-oops, several made four-point shots and several series of dribbling wizardry that gave fans both young and old a night to remember.

The Globetrotters, which last appeared at the MOCC in 2011, faced off with the newly-formed World All-Stars. The since-retired Washington Generals gave up trying to beat the Globetrotters after over 40 years of losing. Wednesday’s ‘game’ ended up in favor of the Globetrotters, 85-81, which had to rally from an 81-77 deficit in the final two minutes after a rules change pointed out by the All-Stars’ coach gave his side the tenuous lead.

The Harlem Globetrotters have dedicated this season to the memory of legendary former ‘Trotters Meadowlark Lemon and Marques Haynes, who have recently passed away. The Globetrotters are currently touring the United States with three touring teams – one in the east, one in the midwest, and one in the west, which will make a stop in South Bend at the University of Notre Dame this Saturday. The tour will continue through May in the states, Canada and into Europe.
