Hawley, Lillian M.ELKHART — Lillian M. Hawley, 88, died 4:08 a.m. at Elkhart General Hospital. Lillian was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Berne to Paul W. and Agnes (Ratz) Shoemaker.

Hawley graduated as a registered nurse through Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne and worked for nursing home throughout Indiana and Illinois.

Hawley lived a full life. At the age of 11 years she received the call to the mission field. She and her husband George spent many years, first in Japan, then later in life, Belize, Calif. Her greatest passion was to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ and the salvation message. She produced a series of audio Christian children’s tapes, a children’s tract in Spanish, authored and published work of fiction showing God’s power. She also had a great love of God’s creation, taking joy in painting the beauty she saw around her and using her artistic skills in children’s ministry illustrations.

She is survived by her husband: Lawrence Hawely, Sapulpa, Okla.; Three daughters: Virginia (Mark) Timler, South Bend, Roxanne (Paul) Comino, Millersburg, Heather (Michael) Telschow, Wakarusa; Five sons: Karl (Cindy) Reusser, Warsaw, Jack (Elaine) Reusser, Bixby, Okla., Thomas (Mayrea) Reusser, Elkhart, Hugh (Susan) Reusser, Churubusco, Nathan (Kayse) Reusser, Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter-in-law: Mary Luz Reusser, Dallas, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son: Andrew Reusser; parents: Paul and Agnes Shoemaker; a brother: James Shoemaker; and two husbands: George F. Reusser, Donald E. Nei.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St. The service will be at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Donald Mishler officiating. The burial will be at Saint John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery, Vera Cruz.

Memorials will be accepted at Southside Fellowship, 420 Riverview St., Logansport, Indiana 46947. In memo line of check: Toledo Faith Outreach Christian Center.
