NW Chamber Says Delightful Dixie Days
“Dixie Days went very well. We are collecting suggestions for next year to make it even better. A couple of local businesses had record sales on Saturday as well as the vendors were happy and some want to come back for the Heart of the Harvest Fall Festival, Sept. 29,” reported North-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce President Tonya Bowser during the general meeting Monday.
She continued, “Dixie Days was advertised in local media and on the Art & Earth Trail as well as in 2012 Indiana Festival Guide. There is no grant money used to put it on. It was all done by local organizations this year helping out the chamber this year.”
Karilyn Metcalf, chamber board member and president of Dixie Sternwheeler Inc. commented, “The two additional Dixie cruises added in the early afternoon had good crowds and all three later cruises were at capacity, with some people being turned away. Most of them returned on Sunday for a ride.”
The number of people attending was larger than in previous years and the Dixie Days Car Show tripled in size. It was suggested that the car show run at least another hour longer and be moved to a larger location. Other comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome. Email [email protected] or call the chamber office and leave a message, (574) 834-1600, extension 241.
Sue Ward will be the chairperson for the chamber sponsored fall festival, Sept. 29. Those wanting to be on the committee should call Ward, (574) 834-4323. It will again be in support of the North Webster Community Center Heart of the Community Charity Raffle and Auction, which is Saturday, Oct. 6.
Santa’s Christmas Visit for the kids will be held, Saturday, Nov. 24. Co-chairmen are Stacey Cox and Linda Land. The format is being renovated with perhaps a different location and definitely a different time frame. It will be held Saturday only and tie in with National Small Business Day.
The membership was reminded that nominations for officers and new board members will be distributed next month. Positions that will be open include president and treasurer. There are three two-year board terms available and two three year board terms. Consider the skills that people may offer and their commitment levels as well.
Those who may be interested in any of the positions should contact Bowser. It is important for members to attend the Sept. 10 meeting to nominate and then the Oct. 8 meeting to vote for the officers and board.
Both will be held at noon, the second Monday of the month at the North Webster American Legion, 756 S. SR 13.
