Jan Cole Carter, 75, Columbia City, died at 7:07 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was admitted on Dec. 14.

He was born Dec. 18, 1940, in Kosciusko County, a son of Thomas H. and Helen E. (Cole) Carter. His formative years were spent in Pierceton and he completed his education at Pierceton High School. On Sept. 11, 1982 he married Linda K. (May) Sheets Martin. They have always made their home in Columbia City.

Jan was a truck driver for over 30 years with various trucking companies.

Surviving relatives include his wife: Linda; a son: Michael Carter; two stepdaughters: Debra O’Day, Fort Wayne; and Shirley Cooper, South Whitley; several grandchildren; and two sisters: Peggy Layman, Muncie; and Judy Mowry, Cape Coral, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Harry Carter; and a sister: Martha Reid.

The funeral service will be held at Noon, Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation after 10 a.m. Tuesday. The burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
