Captain John F. Hoffman
Captain John F. Hoffman, retired, 85, North Manchester, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015, at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester.
He was born in Wiconisco, Pa., to James W. and Emily Francis (McNeal) Hoffman, on Jan. 20, 1930. He married Ella Louise (Evans) on June 27, 1958. She survives. John was a retired army captain.
John is survived by wife; sons: James Hoffman, Lykens, Pa.; Bradley (Nancy) Hoffman, Pottsville, Pa.; stepson: Frederick (Brenda) Stone, Tower City, Pa.; daughters: Colleen (Jay) Umbenhour, Millersburg, Pa.; Janelle (Dwain) Messersmith, Pottsville, Pa.; and Susan (Curtis) Stephan, Goshen; ten grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one brother.
He was a WWII and Korean War Veteran. He retired from the US Army in 1993 after 24 years as Captain. He and his wife owned and operated Aqua Analytical from 1980 –2000. They tested residential and city water. He and his wife managed the Fellowship of Churches Thrift Shop in North Manchester for 6 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #286 in North Manchester. He was a member of the Indiana Fraternal Order Of Police. He was a member of Liberty Mills Community Church, Liberty Mills.
There will be no service or calling. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Indianapolis. McKee Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
