Sara ‘Jane’ (Mock) Montieth
Sara “Jane” (Mock) Monteith, 71, of Dixon, Ill. passed away at peace in her home, surrounded by her family on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1944, in Warsaw, to Sara Elizabeth (Bishop) Mock and (Wavel) Dale Mock. She graduated from Milford High School in and attended International Business College in Fort Wayne. While there, she married Richard Alan Monteith on July 30, 1966.
Jane loved music. She began taking piano lessons in the third grade, played the clarinet throughout high school, and enjoyed singing in the choir. She played the piano and organ for every church that she attended, and she gifted her love of music to her children and grandchildren.
Jane retired in 2009 after working for 27 years at the Lee County Health Department as a support staff supervisor. She volunteered for a few years at the Hope Life Center and helped deliver for Meals on Wheels. She continued to sing and play the piano and organ at the Church of the Brethren in Dixon, where she was an active member.
In addition to music, she cherished family get-togethers, Scrabble and domino competitions with family and friends, Christmas time, and traveling with her family to see God’s wonderful world.
She was a wife for 49 years to her husband: Richard; loving mother to: Reni (Paul) Whitcombe, Dixon, Ill.; Ronda (Dean) Ekberg, Mahomet, Ill.; Ryan (Jaimi Beekman) Montieth; and Rochelle (Andrew Bollman) Montieth-Bollman, Dixon, Ill.; proud grandmother to: Thomas; David: Sara; and Esther Whitcombe; Isaac and Joshua Ekberg; and Asher Bollman. She is also survived by her sister: Dolores “Dot” Selvey, Warsaw; brother: James Mock, Warsaw; and extended family members: Amber Moseley; Addison Lightner; and Brooke Bocek; as well as many in-laws; nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one granddaughter: Hannah Grace Ekberg.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at Dixon Church of the Brethren, Dixon, Ill. and from 1-2:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Dixon Church of the Brethren. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Marty Creager, pastor, officiating. Burial will be immediately following at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Dixon Church of the Brethren.
