Some people on social media say the city should be re-named to celebrate the premiere of the Star Wars movie.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigeg’s office says they’re hoping to plan a celebration downtown. He says any time our region is a part of a global phenomenon, it’s certainly worth celebrating.

“People around here know how to have a good time, really for any occasion,” he said. “And I’m excited that it’s something like this and I look forward to seeing what people come up with. I’m guessing there will be some healthy costumes around our city on Friday morning.”

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens in theaters on Thursday night.
