Alexander HorvathAlexander R. Horvath, 99, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2015, at West Woods Nursing Home, Niles, Mich.

Alexander was truck driver all of his life as well as a heavy equipment operator. After his retirement years, Alexander, delivered vehicles for Tyler’s and Jordan Ford. He was born on Oct. 17, 1916, in South Bend, to the late Anthony G. and Mary (Shanto) Horvath. On Dec. 16, 1946 in Plymouth, he married Bertha May (Rose) Horvath who preceded him in death on July 16, 2012.

Mr. Horvath was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, South Bend where he served as head usher for 68 years. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Alexander was Past Vice-Commander and Lifetime Member of American Legion #50; member of VFW #360 Mishawaka; and a member of Clay Democratic Club.

Alexander is survived by his two daughters: Judy (Ward) Bedell-Deutscher, Niles, Mich.; and Mary (Dave) Stogsdill, South Bend; two sons: Tony (Pam) Horvath; and Mike Horvath, both of South Bend; ten grandchildren: Gage Horvath; Rick Bedell; Brandi Waters; Baylie Waters; Adam Horvath; Shawn Horvath; Jessica Waters: Leah Mullins; Stacie Stogsdill; and Ginger Stogsdill; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister: Elizabeth Sheets; and four brothers: Michael; Anthony; John; and Steve.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Christ the King Catholic Church, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of mass. Burial will follow in Ullery Cemetery, South Bend. Expressions of sympathy to the Horvath family may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Palmer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
