Triton On Top Of Seesaw Affair
BOURBON – In a matchup of old regional rivals, the tournament-like intensity never left. Visiting Pioneer entered the Trojan Trench Friday night as a Hoosier North Athletic Conference foe and gave host Triton all it could handle. The Trojans, however, withstood the test with a 52-46 boys basketball victory.
The game was air tight all evening, with Triton holding its biggest lead at 24-17 late in the second quarter. From there, the game was up in the air, seeing 17 lead changes throughout and seven ties.
Jordan Anderson led the way for Triton with 20 points and had four rebounds and pair of assists to go with his four three-pointers. Zac Pitney had one of his best varsity showings to date, scoring eight points and adding four rebounds and two steals.
Masen Yeo chipped in nine points and eight boards for the Trojans and Jarrett Kreft and Grant Johnson combined for 14 points and nine boards.
The Panthers of Pioneer had three players in double figures, led by Sam Kiser’s 13 points. Caleb Kindley added 11 points and Keith Nies finished with 10 points.
Triton and Pioneer last met in the 2013 season when Triton defeated Pioneer by 12 in the regional championship en route to the Class 1-A state finals.
In the JV contest, Drew Stichter’s 13 points and 11 points from Adam Stevens were enough to get Triton to a 48-38 win over Pioneer. Oliver Joyner and Gavin Wells combined for 21 points for the Panthers.
Triton (4-2) will host Bethany Christian Tuesday while Pioneer (1-3) will entertain North Miami Saturday night.
