Elizabeth P. Yann, 91, of Columbia City, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at her home.

She was born Sept. 24, 1924 in Ithaca, N.Y. to Herbert M. and Dorothy (Barry) Peters. She graduated from Ithaca High School and received her Bachelors degree in Home Economics from Cornell University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

In 1945 she was united in marriage to George W. Yann Jr. They made their home in Louisville, Ky. for a year then moving to N.Y., residing in Schenectady, Quaker Street and Poplar Ridge. In 1971 they moved to Columbia City. Mr. Yann died March 16, 1982.

A homemaker, Yann sold Stanley Products, managed census takers and also managed Second Time Around. She was a member of Columbia City Women’s Bowling League, American Legion Post #98 Auxiliary where she served as past president and Whitley County Historical Society.

Surviving relatives include seven children, George W. Yann III of Aurora N.Y., Eileen Yann Brackett, Fort Wayne; Peter C. (Michele) Yann, Wirtz, Va.; Michael G. (Rose) Yann, Fort Wayne; Stephen P. (Kim) Yann, Larwill; David W. (Jan) Yann, Lexington, Ga.; and Christopher (Karen) Yann, Phoenix, Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Patricia Marion, Newburg, N.Y.; Jane Talmage, East Hampton, N.Y.; and Barbara Hughes, Cape May, N.J.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathleen Freeman, and a grandson.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with visitation after 1 p.m. The burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery, Columbia City. The visitation will also be from 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to American Legion Post #98 Auxiliary.
