Melvin M. Myers, 83, Peru, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at Blair Ridge Health Campus in Peru. He was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Peru, to Vernon Wilbur and Esther Fern (Ream) Myers.
Melvin was a 1950 graduate of Jefferson Township High School in Mexico. He served in the U.S. Air Force for three and a half years. He was a brakeman for the C and O Railroad 23 years retiring in 1986, and also delivered RVs all across the U.S. He was a past member of the Peru Moose Lodge, and an eight-year volunteer at the Miami Nation of Indians. Melvin enjoyed deer hunting and hunted several years in Wyoming, played softball several years for Hausske-Harlen softball team, and enjoyed bowling and rolled a 300 game. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his daughter: Reja Enyart, Peru; three grandchildren: Metea Enyart, Peru; Nicholas (Courtney Hopper) Enyart Sr., Wabash; Taylor Townsend, Peru; two great-grandchildren: Kiearra Springer, Peru; and Nicholas Enyart Jr., Wabash; sister: Fayetta McClain, New Waverly; and his twin brother: Elvin E. (Dorothy) Myers, Peru. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Maynard ‘Pete’ Myers; and Delmar Myers; and his great-grandson: Noah Enyart.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, with Pastor Phil Cruea officiating. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the funeral home. Preferred memorial is the family of Melvin Myers for expenses.
