Carol May Haiflich, 76, of rural Columbia City, died unexpectedly at 11:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at Coventry Meadows, Fort Wayne, where she had been a resident since Oct. 14.

She was born June 20, 1939, in Whitley County, the only child of Ross and Elizabeth (Trier) Howenstine. Her formative years were spent in the Ormas area. She graduated from Larwill High School.

On June 7, 1965 she was united in marriage to Richard Dee Haiflich. They have always made their home in rural Columbia City, moving to their present home in 1976.

She was employed at Precision Plastics, Zolox and retired from USSI in 2007.

Surviving relatives include her husband: Richard; a son: Douglas Gene (Vicki) Haiflich, Columbia City; two grandchildren: Tristan and Ashley; and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Thorn Cemetery, Ormas. The visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
