Gene E. HerronGene E. Herron, Jr., 63, Fort Wayne, passed away at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at VA Hospital in Marion

Mr. Herron was born on Feb. 18, 1952, in Columbia City, a son of Gene E. Herron and Shirley (Shively) Herron.

He spent his formative years in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1970. After high school he joined and served in the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy he spent three years on the U.S.S. Eisenhower as Chief of Communications. After his Military service he lived in Georgia then to Fort Wayne where he had lived for the last 30 years.

The surviving relatives include sister: Pepper (Byron) Wells, Buffalo Grove, Ill.; two brothers: Jeffrey (Tammy) Herron, Albion; and brother: Todd (Paula) Herron, Churubusco; four nephews: Brandon; Joshua; Jordan; and Kyle; and three grand-nephews: Knox; Liam; and Jase. He was preceded in death by his parents: Gene E.Herron and Shirley (Shively) Herron; and a sister: Candy A. Maugherman

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Van Horn, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. Friday.

Military burial rites will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.
