APC Cancels Meeting for No New Business
Due to no advertised public hearings and no other business deemed urgent enough to discuss, the August regular monthly meeting of the Kosciusko County Area Planning Commission was canceled. It had been scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, in the county courthouse, Warsaw.
Canceling APC meetings due to no new business is rare. Matt Sandy, county assistant planning director, said he has worked in the planning office 12 years and could not recall a meeting being canceled due to a lack of business in recent memory. A meeting was canceled a few years ago due to nasty winter weather.
In reality, other than petitions for roadway vacations around area lakes, there has been a lack of other business to deal with the last several months. Land rezoning requests have been sporadic and no new housing subdivisions are being built in the county. Therefore, no new plat requests are coming before the planning commission.
Sandy noted several new subdivision plats were submitted before the economy turned for the worse a few years ago. Some of the lots in those subdivisions are finally now being filled so there isn’t a need for new subdivisions.
Planning commission members have been considering some ordinance amendments. Not meeting in August will allow the APC more time to consider the amendments, he said.
Planning commission meetings are normally held the first Wednesday of each month in the commissioners room of the county courthouse. Meetings are open to the public.
