Nemitz Lone Wildcat To Advance
FORT WAYNE – Brigit Nemitz was the lone Whitko Wildcat to move to the regional round from the Fort Wayne Northrop cross country sectional Saturday morning.
Nemitz ran a 20:32 to sit atop the Whitko girls times, and qualified as the number two individual in a speedy sectional field.
Whitko only had four girls running, so the team did not have a chance to qualify. Suzi Sickafoose was 11th among the individual times, just missing the cut with her time of 21:58, five seconds behind Marci Wallace’s 21:53 for Fort Wayne Snider in taking the tenth and final spot.
Hanna Yohe ran a 22:39 and Liz Foutz a 26:07 for the Lady Wildcats.
For the Whitko boys, the team finished 12th in the standings and none of the runners had a time good enough to qualify for the regional level.
Logan Busz was the top runner for the Wildcats at 18:45, which was 58th overall at the sectional. Josh Wright ran a 19:28, Zack Freel a 20:18, Ezra Miller a 21:22 and Kort Gebert a 25:23.
Fort Wayne Carroll won both the boys and girls team titles, the boys scoring 42 points to hold off Concordia and the girls piling up only 25 points to smash the field. Homestead was second at 49 points.
Madison Fruchey of Carroll won the girls race at 18:09 and Brayden Law of Homestead captured the boys race title at a blazing 15:19.
Nemitz will run next Saturday at the West Noble Regional.
