LAPORTE – The Edgewood eighth grade volleyball team finished as runner-up at the LaPorte Volleyball Invitational this past weekend. Edgewood defeated Michigan City Barker, LaPorte Boston, Penn Grissom and LaPorte Kesling in preliminary rounds. In the finals against Boston, Edgewood fell 22-25, 25-22, 15-14. With the result, Edgewood moved to 24-2 on the season. The seventh grade also played at LaPorte and bowed out in the semi-finals to Kesling. The seventh grade team at Edgewood is 22-3 overall.

Also of note, several area volleyball players from Washington Elementary and Edgewood Middle School recently attended a volleyball match between Syracuse and Notre Dame in South Bend. Former Winona Lake resident Maddie Plumlee is a sophomore outside hitter who plays for Notre Dame. While Notre Dame lost in a five-set match, Plumlee made time to talk with the volleyball players, sign autographs and pose for a few pictures.
