AKRON — The Akron Carnegie Public Library will celebrate its 100th anniversary with an open house from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. The library will feature live music and refreshments, along with various displays of old pictures and artifacts of the Akron Public Library and the Akron community.
The event will include old movies filmed in and around Akron in the late 1930s by the late Earl Troutman and narrated by the late Velma Bright, who served as Library Director from 1950-2010. Picture displays on the history of the Akron Carnegie Public Library, along with a collection of pictures of past children’s summer reading programs and story hour events will run continuously.
A collection of Akron memorabilia, courtesy of the Craig Adams family, will also be on display. Area harpist, Jessica Richardson, will perform and the recently completed art wall will showcase paintings from award-winning, local artists.
