MILFORD — Upcoming events at Milford Public Library:
Lapsit
This week marks the start of infant lapsit. Lapsit is intended for babies, from infant through 36 months. Lapsit is at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday in October. This falls theme is apples! We will learn some finger plays, sing some songs such as “Way Up High In An Apple Tree,” and read a few books about apples. Join staff this Tuesday, Oct. 6 for our first week. If you have children who would like to be part of lapsit, you can call or come in and sign up at the desk in the Children’s Department.
Teen Read Week
Milford Public Library will celebrate Teen Read Week, from Oct. 18-24, with a selfie station for teens and refreshments on Wednesday, Oct. 21, after school in the teen area of the library. Teen Read Week events are aimed at encouraging teens around the area to read for the fun of it. Thousands of libraries, schools and bookstores across the country will hold similar events centered on this year’s theme, “Get Away at your Library.”
Teens can go online to www.ala.org/yalsa/reads4teens and vote for up to three favorite nominees. You must be between the ages of 12-18 to cast a vote. Voting takes place from now till Oct. 18, when winning titles will be announced. Any time during Teen Read Week, stop by the teen area and take a “Get Away At Your Library” selfie with your favorite book. There will be vacation props to use to make a great photo.
Friends Meeting
The Friends of the Library will meet in the teen area at Milford Public Library at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. Everyone is invited to join them. They are working on plans for the Book and Bake Sale scheduled for Nov. 20 and Nov. 21. Stop by the adult circulation desk and pick up a brochure about the Friends. Membership dues are very reasonable and the organization supports the library and its programs.
Fall Story Time
Fall is here! Join staff for the first week of fall story time at 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, or at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, as she talks about the colors of fall. Fall story time is a program for children ages 3-6. It’s a great way for children to meet new friends, develop listening skills, and be introduced to the library and all it has to offer. Listen to staff read “Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf” by Lois Ehlert, and “Colors of Fall” by Laura Purdie Salas. After listening to stories, we will make fall leaves picture frames with magnets to put on your fridge. After making our picture frames, enjoy a healthy snack of apples, bananas, oranges, and chocolate. If you have not registered your child, come into the library or call and get signed up.
Lego Crew
LEGO Crew is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 10. On the second Saturday of each month, we get together and let our imaginations run wild. We provide the LEGOS, you provide your creativity and imagination. Call us if you have any questions.
Lights Out at the Library
Mark your calendars for the most popular program the library offers: Lights Out at the Library! This year’s theme is “Have a graphic novel Halloween!” Tours through the library will be from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, the same hours of Milford’s trick or treat. This program is for all ages.
If you would like to donate some full size candy bars to the library to give as treats at the end of the tour, please bring your donation to the adult circulation desk. Super Librarian will greet you at the beginning of the tour. Small groups will stop at several stations set up in the library, each one promoting our graphic novel collections in the adult, teen and children’s departments. Admission is free. The tour takes about 15 minutes and children in costume get a treat at the end of the tour.
