Tigers Take JV Football Matchup

Warsaw won on the road Saturday morning, beating Wawasee 21-11 in JV football.

For Wawasee, Will Geer had a 65-yard touchdown pass to Cayden Wegener and Braydon Johnson kicked a 37-yard field goal. Jacob Hand added four catches for 66 yards and had an interception. Dalton Pearish and Kevin Weikart each had six tackles and combined for a sack and blocked punt.

Warsaw did not provide any stats from the contest.

Warsaw will host NorthWood next Saturday and Wawasee will visit Memorial.

Warriors Split At JV NLC Tourney

Wawasee split its two games at the Northern Lakes Conference girls soccer tourney Saturday at Warsaw.

Wawasee went 4-3 in the penalty kick shoot-out to beat Warsaw 1-1 (4-3) in its first game. Meg Heinisch tied the game for Wawasee in the 68th minute on a penalty kick.

Converting in the shoot-out were Heinisch, Natalie Winters, Dakota Jones and Megan Bray.

The Lady Warriors lost to Plymouth 4-0 in its second game, allowing three goals in the first half.

Plymouth would beat Goshen to win the tournament.

Warsaw did not provide information from its tournament activity.

Junior Harriers Conclude At OxBow

The cross country race season concluded for the junior varsity teams in the Northern Lakes Conference Saturday morning with the running of the NLC JV races at OxBow Park.

Warsaw placed four in the top 15 of the boys race, led by Devin Dawson in third place at 18:00. Ridley Lemon was sixth at 18:26, Matt Hastings was seventh at 18:35 and Gary Keyes was 13th at 18:53.

Hunter Metzger was fifth for the Tigers with a 17th-place run of 19:01.

Wawasee did not have a boys runner listed in the JV race.

Warsaw’s girls were dominant, taking the top four spots in its JV race.

Charlene Orr led the charge with a winning time of 20:27, followed by Mallory Hooks at 20:32, Lauren Orr at 20:41 and Michaela Roark at 20:48. Remi Beckham finished eighth at 21:10, Caitlin Kehler ninth at 21:12 and Angie Sanchez tenth at 21:22 gave the Lady Tigers a firm grasp on the top 10.

Wawasee’s top performer was Autumn Yoder, finishing 33rd at 23:42. Stephany Mejia (38, 24:19), Molly Swartz (41, 24:41), Reagan Atwood (42, 24:50) and Katelyn Baker (66, 26:31) composed Wawasee’s top five runners.
