Lancer Volleyball Team Falls At Marian
INDIANAPOLIS – The four-match winning streak for the Grace College volleyball team was halted on Saturday with a 3-0 loss at Marian in Crossroads League play.
The Lady Lancers (12-9, 4-5 Crossroads League) struggled offensively with a .060 hitting percentage and fell in straight sets.
Marian had 14 kills in the opening set en route to a 25-20 win. The Knights (3-7, 3-6 CL) had their most efficient set during the second game. Marian produced 13 kills on just three errors, taking a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-17 victory.
Grace nearly pulled off a comeback in the third set. Marian won the first point of the set and never trailed. The Lady Lancers were in a 24-21 hole but managed to recover and tie the score with a kill by Kaitlin Kerrigan, an error by Marian and a block from Sierra Smith and Tori Bontrager. The Knights bounced back to win the final two rallies and clinch the match 26-24.
Kerrigan and Smith led Grace’s offense with seven kills apiece, and Kerrigan added 14 digs. Kari Feddema produced four kills, one solo block and two block assists, and Sara Miller notched 14 digs.
Laken Chaney had 16 assists, six digs and two block assists, and Jessica Scherb tallied seven digs.
The Lady Lancers will hope to regain their winning ways on Wednesday with a conference match at Bethel College at 7 p.m.
